BYU Football appears to be destined to play in the Independence Bowl against a C-USA team.

Independence for BYU Football has a lot of perks. Playing new teams every season, having a great contract with ESPN and building new rivalries (Boise State) are just some of them. On the flip side, there are a few negatives that are highlighted most by contracted bowl games.

While a guaranteed bowl game broadcasted on ESPN doesn’t sound all that bad, what it does do is create a sense lost purpose for fans, and possibly even players. At 5-2 and five games remaining in the regular season, BYU’s fate is already decided whether they finish 5-0 or 1-4. They will play in Shreveport on December 18th against a Conference USA team.

But what if I told you there is still a lot of play for this season? Perhaps the journey in this case is better than the ultimate destination. In fact, if BYU ends up with more than ten wins, the journey could still end up being one that goes down as a very special season.
