BYU Football: 5 reasons why this season isn’t over
By Adam Gibby
1. Winning Record Against P5 Teams
Did you know that over the past five seasons only 41% of P5 teams end up with a winning record in conference play? While that sounds off, keep in mind that two teams that go 8-1 in conference mean eight other teams have two losses already before playing each other. After that, even going 4-3 in the rest of conference games ends with a 4-5 record.
BYU Football has claimed for years that they are good enough to play in the P5. They will finally get their chance in two years when they join the Big 12, but until then, they can hang their hat on a winning 2021 campaign if they just get one more win either against Washington State, Virginia or USC. That would give them at worst a 4-3 P5 record and put the Cougars in the top 40% of P5’s.
If somehow the Cougars pull of a 6-1 record against the P5, they would be in the top 10% of teams nationally who post a winning percentage in P5 games above 80%.
