BYU Offense vs Wash State Defense

BYU’s offense has been really bad in the running game the past two weeks, which does not make a lot of sense. Both Boise State and Baylor showed significant weaknesses in rush defense before the BYU game, and both looked like the Georgia defense in the box against them.

Washington State doesn’t rank high on defense (82nd in the nation overall), and ranking 79th in rushing defense giving up 4.44 yards per carry,  given BYU’s recent drought in running success, it’s anyone’s guess whether BYU can run on them (Boise State ranks 104th and Baylor 58th).

In the passing game, the Cougars should do just fine. That has not been an area of concern really all season. Wash State ranked 86th in the nation in passing defense, much worse than Boise State or Baylor (both in the top 50).

I expect the Cougars do be able to do better, albeit not much better in the rushing attack this week. However, BYU won’t need to rely on their rushing attack as the receivers should have no issue picking up first downs in the passing game.
