No. 9 Wake Forest

Wake Forest seems like a placeholder. The Demon Deacons haven’t really done anything impressive this season, but at the same time, they have avoided disappointment. Surprisingly, similar to Oregon however, BYU fans need to hope that Wake Forest wins their conference championship, whether that is with a loss or an undefeated season.

As it currently stands, it does not look like any other ACC team will have a legitimate chance on making it to the Top 12 in the rankings, so either Wake Forest needs to be outside the Top 12 (two losses) or need to win the ACC.

No. 10 Notre Dame

The Irish shouldn’t lose a game the rest of the season. There isn’t a single opponent left on their schedule that they won’t be favored to beat by quite a margin. If you are a BYU Football fan however, you need to hope for a loss somewhere, and hopefully that somewhere is later in the season.

In all likelihood, No. 10 Notre Dame losing this weekend or next would not be enough for them to drop below BYU. In a few weeks though, if BYU has risen in the rankings to the No. 11-13 range and Notre Dame is still No. 9 or 10 then maybe a loss would be enough.

Again, that is a lot to ask.
