BYU Football: Clear cheering guide for Championship weekend
By Adam Gibby
MUST HAVES – No order as all are necessary
AAC – Cincinnati needs to BLOW OUT Houston – Cincinnati is currently in the fourth and final spot in the playoff with Oklahoma State knocking on the door. Houston is a good opponent, however they are not Baylor. The Bearcats have to go out and show that they are the dominant team and that nobody deserves to pass them in the rankings. For this situation (BYU making a NY6), the score honestly may need to be something like 35-7 or 42-13.
Big 10 Championship: Michigan needs to beat Iowa – This is somewhat expected after the Wolverines took down Ohio State. If Iowa beats Michigan, the dream is over for BYU as Michigan would fall out of the top four and move Ohio State into BYU’s hopeful at large.
Big 12 Championship: Oklahoma State needs to beat Baylor by a lot, but not too much – This one is sticky and feels a bit like Dash running a race at the end of ‘The Incredibles’. On one hand, Oklahoma State needs to beat Baylor by enough points to have them drop below BYU. On the other hand, if they are too impressive, they will pass Cincinnati in the Playoffs which would again eliminate BYU. The perfect score sounds like 27-10.
SEC Championship – Alabama needs to beat Georgia OR go to overtime – Georgia has been untouchable all year. No team has even made it competitive at halftime to this point. Beating Georgia is a very tall task, which alone almost makes BYU’s dream dead. But what if the Crimson Tide force overtime? If the Committee’s job is to put in the Top 4 teams, wouldn’t keeping Alabama be a choice?
