BYU Football: Way too early look at the 2022 schedule
By Adam Gibby
Really Good Teams
Unlike this past season, after the initial three good teams (USU, Utah and Baylor) there isn’t a huge drop off. This upcoming season the Cougars will have to face Arkansas (9-4), Utah State (11-3), and Boise State (7-6).
Whether Utah State will repeat their 2021 success is anyone’s guess, it can assumed that Arkansas and Boise State will both be really good. The Razorbacks posted their best season in over a decade and return starting QB KJ Jefferson and super senior captain LB Bumper Poole while the Broncos are almost surely going to be back to being at worst an eight or nine win team or better.
Regardless, this next group of teams is going to be far better than the second tier of teams that the Cougars faced this year. More than anything is that there just aren’t very many breaks between games in the first two tiers of games. After the Cougars open up the season against South Florida, BYU will face five teams in a six week stretch who finished with nine wins or more in 2021.
