BYU Basketball: 3 Takeaways from the season
By Adam Gibby
There is a Lot of Potential
Despite the season ending on a sour note, the potential for this team is there. There were moments this season that the Cougars really did look like they belonged in the NCAA Tournament. Yes, Barcello was the star, but this wasn’t the Jimmer Fredette show where every single night the team lived and died on Jimmer’s performance. There were nights when it was Caleb Lohner and others it was Trevin Knell leading the team. Other nights it was Traore taking over or George unable to miss a shot.
I’m not saying that every player needs to be hitting on all cylinders every single night, but if the Cougars could consistently get three players to have a great game every night, this team will be in the NCAA Tourney next year. As I look at next year’s team, I see Knell, Johnson, George, Traore and Knight as players who could all be huge contributors.
I know I’ve talked bad about the transfer portal, but if the Cougars can go find a two (or three) year player who can be a shot creator, this team will be better than they were this year.
