BYU Football will televise the ‘Alumni Game’ on the BYUtv app.

If you are anything like me you’ve probably thought “Imagine if Jimmer played with Yoeli Childs” or  “What if Max Hall had Cody Hoffman as a target?!”. Tonight we will finally get to see that happen.

Sort of.

Not really.

But it will still be fun.

Tonight BYU Football will be hosting the BYU Alumni game, and the Cougars are going ALL OUT on this. While there have been alumni events in the past, if you’ve been on Twitter the last few weeks you’ve seen posts including the following.

The team has come out with custom jerseys, social media posts and it is even being streamed on the BYUtv app with the A-team announcers Dave McCann and Blaine Fowler.

Now, to keep expectations realistic, no we aren’t going to see Kalani Sitake lowering his shoulder and running over Ben Criddle or Andrew George. Okay, maybe he will, but this game isn’t going to be a full pads and tackling. In fact, we don’t know exactly what will happen, except that if there is a 4th and 19th… you bet Linehan is running.

Again, this won’t be a full speed contact game, but what we do know is that this game isn’t going to be the NBA All-Star or NFL Pro Bowl game that essentially have scoring at will and zero effort. Just seeing some of the names on this roster say otherwise.

If you believe that Cameron Jensen isn’t going to try to pick off a pass or get to the QB, you’ve never seen him play. Brian Logan still has a chip on his shoulder about his height, he’d love nothing more than to pick off a pass going to Mitch Matthews. The list goes on and on. Bottom line, expect there to be some energy tonight on both sides of the ball.

Don’t be shocked if the number of pulled hamstrings is equal to or more than the amount of touchdowns. These are former players who were trained to never take a play off, and with one more chance to play in LES, they all want to make a memorable play.

Is this a serious game? No of course not, but we could hear a play like this: “Hall drops back, avoids Lamb, laterals back to Unga who throws it deep to a wide open Mitch Matthews who hook and ladders it to Cody Hoffman down the sideline and is called down by Jack Damuni.”

C’mon, are you really not going to watch that?

The game will start at 8:30PM EST on the BYUtv App.
