The three year backup announced that he has unfinished business.
Often times we tend to make decisions based on an assumed outcome before wishing we could go back. Sometimes that can be buying a first home just to realize that a landlord isn’t going to fix the pipes, you are. Other times it may be taking that fun history class that you end up realizing is more work than anything you are actually doing in your college major. And other times it is just realizing you need to get back to the game.
First it happened to Tom Brady, and now to BYU quarterback Baylor Romney.
Romney had been the backup quarterback for the past three seasons at BYU and had an impressive resume beating teams like Boise State, Utah State and Liberty. This past season he started against Utah State, USF and was put in the tough position of starting in the Independence Bowl.
It had been reported that he had accepted a job with Adobe and would be focusing on that going forward but in a statement released he said “You only get to play college football for so long. After standing on the sideline of the Alumni game and seeing the fun those guys had to be on the field I realized that I don’t want my next time on this field to be in five years with a bunch of former players…I have the chance to still suit up, so I am going to take that.”
Academically Romney has graduated, however he still has eligibility due to a redshirt and Covid season.
The readdiction of Romney will open up the discussion of transfers in the quarterback room as it now appears that Conover will once again be third string and Fennegan and Maiava-Peters will be even further down the depth chart.
There was no indication of whether he plans on playing only this year or for two years as he would still have one year of eligibility following the 2022 season.
Yes, this is an April Fools joke, but Baylor if you read this, we really would love to have you back!
