Kalani Sitake and Aaron Roderick’s offense overcame a slow start before knocking UCF’s block off. BYU couldn’t get going in the first quarter and found themselves down 14-0 as the second quarter started. The Cougars would get it in gear and score 31 unanswered points. Answering the 14-0 start with a 41-7 run for the 41-21 victory.

The Cougars averaged 414.6 yards per game coming into the home finale and got 407 total yards. BYU was averaging 33.4 points per game, which was 30th in college football, and went above that with their 41 points in this win. BYU is now 16-0 in the past two seasons when they score 30 or more points.

Once again, their stars were the difference-makers. Their big three of Bear Bachmeier, LJ Martin, and Parker Kingston led the way. Bachmeier had the most accurate passing of his young career, going 21 of 25 for an 84% completion percentage. He had 289 passing yards and a touchdown with a season low of only four yards rushing. 208 of 322 for 2,593 yards, 14 touchdowns, and only four interceptions. His season rushing stats are 137 carries for 529 yards and 11 touchdowns.

LJ Martin had his ninth game of the year, going over 100 yards in total offense. LJ was rolling all day! He had 22 carries for 95 yards and three touchdowns, along with five catches for 35 yards. Martin now has 217 carries for 1,229 yards and 11 touchdowns, along with 29 catches for 224 yards this season.

Parker Kingston rounds out BYU’s big three. He had a fantastic game, making six catches for 126 yards and a touchdown, and added a 55-yard punt return for a touchdown. 57 catches for 804 yards and five touchdowns, with 22 carries for 103 yards and three rushing touchdowns, and 14 punts returned for 185 yards and two touchdowns.

BYU will need these three, and every player, frosty and sharp, next Saturday in Arlington, Texas. Texas Tech showed on November 8th that they will make you pay for any mistake. Regardless of the results of the rematch with the Red Raiders, both teams belong in the College Football Playoff. But that’s a whole different story.
