Bruce Brockbank may be done coaching golf, but he is certainly not done playing it. With more time on his hands to play in amateur or professional tournaments, the former BYU golf head coach took a stab at the Primo Provo Open on Friday and Saturday at Timpanogos Golf Club. Not only did he play, but he triumphed over seven other Super Senior professionals to take home the Super Senior title.
Brockbank posted a 73-74, 147 (+3) in two rounds to put him at 3-over par. The Provo native beat out his former Cougar teammate and second-place finisher Steve Schneiter by two strokes and would have tied for 26th on the main leaderboard. Brockbank cashed in seven birdies on his way to collecting $1,000 for his performance.
Retirement? Bruce Brockbank isn’t slowing down. The recently retired @BYUmgolf coach fired rounds of 73-74 for a (+3) 147 to win the Super Senior title at the Provo Open, pocketing 1k for his efforts. Not a bad way to kick off retirement. #utahpgafsmily @timpgolfclub #utahgolf pic.twitter.com/VzWmtZZBf7

The Cougar golf legend announced an end to his 41-year tenure as a player and coach in April. He can add this victory on top of his accomplishments at BYU and the immeasurable impact he has made on the game of golf, especially in Utah. Of course, the 2024 Utah Golf Hall of Fame inductee intends on spending his spare time with family, friends and doing whatever he pleases, which includes making the occasional visits to the Cougar golf program. He indicated this in a press release after men's golf missed the cut in the NCAA Championship this past season.
"It may be my last time coaching, but I’m still going to do everything I can to help these kids out, whether I’m right next to them or hundreds of miles away"Bruce Brockbank
Who knows what else Brockbank will do or accomplish next amidst his retirement. What we do know is that he will do everything he can to stay involved in golf, whether that is at BYU or playing in various tournaments.
