3 Biggest draft busts in BYU football history
John Beck was drafted in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. Beck was the fourth quarterback taken in the 2007 draft and was listed as the third strong guy for the Dolphins. after injuries to the starter Trent Green and poor play by Cleo Lemon, Beck was getting his chance.
In the five games that Beck started, he did not win a single one. The following offseason, Green and Lemon left and it seemed as though Beck would step into the starter position, but the Dolphins had other plans in drafting Chad Henne and signing Chad Pennington.
The Dolphins ended up releasing Beck in 2009. Beck spent the next two seasons as a backup quarterback after signing with the Ravens in 2009. In 2010, the Ravens traded Beck to the Washington Redskins where he would have to battle for the starting position. Ultimately Beck did not win the battle and would be the backup yet again.
In 2011 Beck got the opportunity to start three games, but shortly after that, head coach Mike Shanahan announced he would return to his backup quarterback duties. In 2012, Beck was cut from the team and then signed with the Houston Texans where he was released later in the year.
