Big 12 football schedule release: Who will BYU play in 2024?
The Big 12 recently dropped the 2024 football schedules. Here is who the Cougars will play in their second season in the conference.
BYU had higher hopes for their first season in the Big 12. While they knew it was going to be difficult moving into a new conference, the hopes were at least a bowl appearance. The Cougars fell just short of that goal going 5-7 overall and 2-7 in the conference.
The Cougars went undefeated in non-conference play, including a win over SEC member Arkansas. Thier first Big 12 win came over fellow Big 12 newcomer Cincinnati, but the Cougars were hungry for a win over a Big 12 veteran. Like a storybook ending, the Cougars beat Texas Tech in thier homecoming game and marked thier first win over a Big 12 veteran.
So with year one under their belt, things will only be tougher in year two with even more new opponents joining the conference. With the schedule finally how, here is who BYU will be playing in 2024.
Week 1

The Cougars will open their second season in the Big 12 at home against the Southern Illinois Salukis.
Week 2

BYU will travel to Texas to take on SMU in what will be the Mustangs' first season in the ACC. This will be the first power conference matchup for the Cougars this season.
Week 3

In their final non-conference game, the Cougars will take on Wyoming before they return home to start Big 12 play.

BYU will open Big 12 play against Kansas State, who they have not played since the 1990s.

The Bears and the Cougars are an even 2-2 all-time with the Cougars taking the last matchup in 2022 in non-conference play.

Week six will be the first of two bye weeks for BYU.

Arizona will be the first Big 12 newcomer BYU in 2024. The Cougars and Wildcats are tied 12-12-1 in their all-time series, the last game being played in 2021 where BYU won 24-16.

The cougars have yet to beat the Cowboys, thier latest loss coming in heartbreak fashion in double overtime in 2023.

This is the first time BYU and UCF will face off as both members of the Big 12.

This will be the second bye week of two for BYU.

The Cougars have only played twice, once in 2023 and once in 1992. The Cougars will look for revenge after their 38-37 defeat in 2023.
