The BYU Cougars kick off the 2025 season in 1 day against Portland State. As we continue counting down the days until kickoff, today we will profile the player who wears No. 1 - sophomore cornerback Therrian "Tre" Alexander - by providing three interesting, fun facts:
Fun fact No. 1 - He was a big-time recruit from Georgia
Hailing from Ellenwood, Georgia, Tre Alexander was a high three-star recruit in the class of 2024 with an 87 overall rating from 247 Sports. With his ideal 6-foot-2 frame, he held offers from in-state school Georgia Tech plus a few others much closer to home when compared to Provo in the like West Virginia and Houston. Any time BYU can go into the South and pick up solid non-LDS athletes from a state like Georgia shows how well cornerbacks coach Jernaro Gilford can recruit.

Fun fact No. 2 - He made an impact as a freshman last year
Even with BYU having a pretty solid cornerbacks room last year, Tre won the trust of Jay Hill's staff enough to see the field quite a bit as a freshman last year. In 2024 he appeared in 10 games and recorded three tackles with two passes defended on the season. While those numbers don't jump off the page, every rep freshmen receive in Power Four football pays major dividends later. Those dividends could be paid out this year for BYU.
Fun fact No. 3 - He's could have a breakout sophomore campaign
With last year's starters Jakob Robinson and Marque Collins having finished their college football careers, the door is wide open for Tre Alexander to consume some of those now available snaps. While Evan Johnson and Mory Bamba are more experienced and will likely be starting, Tre Alexander will be on the field more this year than last year, setting himself up to light the Big 12 on fire when he becomes an upperclassman in 2026.
