The BYU Cougars kick off the 2025 season in 10 days against Portland State. As we continue counting down the days until kickoff, today we will profile the player who wears No. 10 - redshirt junior quarterback Treyson Bourget - by providing three interesting, fun facts:

Fun fact No. 1 - His name comes from his birth order

Bourget's first name is a little unique as there aren't a lot of Treysons running around out there. And there's a story to his unique name. According to his player profile at BYU's team website, he was named Treyson because he was the third son born in his family. Now, his two older brothers aren't named something according to their birth order like Firsticus and Secondarius (they are Trenton and Corben), but Treyson is still a cool name.

Fun fact No. 2 - He has solid experience at Western Michigan

Bourget was a three-star prospect coming out of Arizona in 2022 with an 85 grade from 247 Sports. Despite holding an offer from the University of Arizona he chose to play at Western Michigan. He played 10 games between 2022 and 2023 with Western Michigan and threw for 1,314 yards with six touchdowns while rushing for an additional 219 yards. He transferred to BYU in 2024 but didn't appear in any games for the Cougars last year.

Fun fact No. 3 - He needs to be ready to play when called upon

After the surprising departure of incumbent starter Jake Retzlaff, Bourget was part of a three-way battle for QB1 on the Cougars depth chart with McCae Hillstead and true freshman Bear Bachmeier. It became apparent shortly after the Cougars scrimmage a couple of weeks ago that Treyson wouldn't be getting first team reps.

While it's probably frustrating for him to watch from the sidelines, it's a luxury for BYU to have an experienced, talented quarterback like Treyson Bourget on the depth chart. It's not unprecedented for BYU to have to use three quarterbacks in a given year, and Bourget will be ready should his name get called at some point in 2025.
