The BYU Cougars will kick off the 2026 season in 11 days against Utah Tech. As we count down the days until kickoff, today we will profile the player who wears No. 11: junior safety Faletau Satuala.
Faletau Satuala's background
Few recent BYU commits have come with more fanfare than safety Faletau Satuala.
The Bountiful High School product was a four-star recruit with a 94 rating from 247 Sports in the class of 2024. He was the top prospect in the state of Utah that year and the No. 131 recruit nationally. Not surprisingly, he could have played at the college level with just about any program he chose. Offers flooded in from the likes of Tennessee, USC, UCLA, and several Big 12 programs.
In the end, Satuala chose BYU, and he did it with style. He pledged to Kalani Sitake's program on national television on the All-American Bowl for the best high school players in the country.

He was one of the biggest, most validating signings in Kalani Sitake's tenure at the helm of the program. BYU fans knew they were signing a special player years ago given Satuala's high school ratings, and in short order he proved them right.
Satuala's past and present with BYU
Despite his massive 247 Sports high school rating, it took Faletau a season to adjust to Power Four competition and earn snaps for a very good BYU team. During his 2024 freshman season, he appeared in 12 games with nine tackles, allowing him to cut his teeth against Big 12-caliber opponents. That's not a bad season for a true freshman.
Then last year he absolutely broke out.
In his 2025 sophomore campaign he locked down a starting safety spot and was an absolute menace in the secondary for the 12-2 Cougars. Over 14 games he racked up 84 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, a sack, two forced fumbles, three interceptions, and four passes defended. He was stout against the run and displayed great technique and timing in pass coverage. His 84 tackles led the team last year.
At 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds, he has elite size for a safety, and he put it to good use last year.
He earned All-Big 12 Third Team honors for his stellar play in 2025.
Given his talent and now his experience, it's natural for BYU fans to anticipate a potentially legendary season for Satuala in 2026. He is now a veteran upperclassman playing for his team to win the Big 12 and make the CFP, while also putting together tape for NFL front offices to potentially snag him in next year's draft.
Don't be surprised if throughout this season Faletau Satuala generates some All-American buzz. He's that good.
