The BYU Cougars kick off the 2025 season in 15 days against Portland State. As we continue counting down the days until kickoff, today we will profile the player who wears No. 15 - true freshman wide receiver Lamason Waller - by providing three interesting, fun facts:
Fun fact No. 1 - He's a four-star stud
Coming out of Oak Hills High School in Hesperia, California in the class of 2024, Lamason Waller was a four-star recruit from Rivals.com and a Top 50 wide receiver nationally. He was close to four-star territory with 247 Sports with an 88 overall grade and was ranked No. 90 at his position. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound receiver was one of the top players the Cougars landed in the class of 2024.

Fun fact No. 2 - He turned down the bluest of blue bloods to wear the royal blue
Saying Lamason Waller could have played almost anywhere he chose isn't much of a stretch. He held offers from Alabama, Tennessee, Oregon, Ole Miss, Georgia, Notre Dame, Michigan, and a host of other blue blood programs. He could have signed with any of the top SEC or Big Ten schools of his choice. But Lamason saw the opportunity and the environment BYU had to offer, and he chose Kalani Sitake and the Cougars over just about every other school in the nation.
Fun fact No. 3 - He had a nice freshman-to-freshman catch early in Fall camp
Early in Fall camp when BYU fans study every frame of film that gets released to the public, Waller had a nice diving catch that made rounds on the internet.

What made BYU fans sit up even straighter after watching this clip is the fact that this is a freshman-to-freshman connection with four-star quarterback Bear Bachmeier throwing a perfect ball to four-star receiver Lamason Waller for a diving catch. This could be a connection that develops into something special in coming years for the BYU Cougars.
