BYU will have a top five scoring defense

Last season, BYU football ranked No. 16 in the nation in scoring defense, allowing 20.6 points per game. The obvious outlier from last year was the Toledo game, a game in which BYU allowed 53 points.

This year, BYU will only get better.

There are a couple of things that make such improvement possible. Firstly, the Cougars have a ton of talent on the defensive side of the ball. Sure, replacing Kai Nacua and Harvey Langi is no easy task, but the BYU secondary and linebacking group are some of the best in the nation.

Secondly, the Cougars have the benefit of playing some not-so-tough teams late. UNLV, Hawaii, Fresno State, ECU, UMass… just to name a few. Those teams shouldn’t light up the scoreboard.
