Goal No. 3: Beat Boise State at home

BYU Football has successfully defended their home turf against Boise State in recent years, having won in Provo in both 2013 and 2015. This year the Broncos return to Provo, and while they are still a very good football program, these aren’t the same Broncos of the past Fiesta Bowl glory years.

Brett Rypien returns at quarterback, but the Broncos lost 2 very big offensive weapons to the NFL. RB Jeremy McNichols (2,183 all purpose yards, 27 TD’s) and WR Thomas Sperbeck (1,272 yards receiving, 9 TD’s) were big time weapons for Boise last year. Those two players accounted for 56 percent of Boise State’s total offense last season. Replacing them will be very difficult for the Broncos.

This will be a very important (and very winnable) rivalry game for BYU football this season. Hopefully the sting from the Cougars’ one-point loss in Boise last season will serve as extra motivation for BYU.
