BYU basketball: The five biggest games of the year in Provo
By Adam Gibby
Number 4: UVU, November 29
(Technically this game is in Orem, but tickets and driving distances are the same as a home game).
As bad as the UT Arlington loss was in the NIT, the UVU loss was worse for BYU basketball. Many believe that the loss to UVU was what ruined the BYU basketball season.
The loss was like being knocked out in a boxing match against your little brother who is only using one arm. I don’t mean to write anything negative against the Wolverines, but the fact is, UVU is full of players who either:
A) Could not make BYU’s basketball team
B) Players who transferred from BYU’s team because they were not getting playing time
One loss will not likely affect recruiting for the Cougars, but two losses could really put the Cougars in some deep trouble in the future. Not to mention, BYU basketball doesn’t want the UVU game to be viewed as a rivalry. Losing this year or even next year could make that happen.
