BYU football: Cougars to play LSU in New Orleans
After the tragic events in Houston, Texas, BYU football and LSU will clash in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.
For the past two days, the two universities have been discussing options about moving the BYU football/LSU game from Houston to another city.
Dallas was thought to be the front runner at one point. While the home of the Cowboys is occupied on Saturday, the Cotton Bowl offered itself up. However, it wasn’t selected.
Orlando also was a possibility early on, but those rumors ended fairly quickly.
We have our answer now. BYU football will take on the LSU Tigers in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
The Superdome is just about 90 minutes southeast of LSU campus and can hold nearly 77,000 fans.
Part of ESPN’s college kickoff weekend, the game marks the first time BYU football played in the Superdome since 2009. That season the Cougars played Tulane and picked up a 54-3 victory.
While it will certainly feel like a home contest for the Tigers, LSU already had a much higher ticket allotment than BYU (it was going to be about 66/33 LSU to BYU fans in Houston). But it is still a great opportunity for the Cougars to be on national television in primetime against a top notch opponent.
Plus, playing in a dome certainly helps BYU. The Tigers are a run-heavy team, so they can play in anything. At least we don’t have to worry about a Poinsettia Bowl weather situation now.
We’ve already discussed how a win over the Tigers would be one of the best in BYU football history. If you’re interested in that, click here.
The game is being touted as one of the best of the weekend. There’s no doubt a different Cougar squad from last Saturday will show up to New Orleans.
