No. 1: Derrius Guice might have a limited role

If LSU didn’t have a guy named Leonard Fournette last season, way more people would know about Derrius Guice.

For my money, he’s the best running back in the nation.

Last year, Guice ran for 1,387 yards and 15 touchdowns while averaging 7.6 yards per carry. Those are some big-time numbers – and if he’s healthy, there’s no reason to think he won’t be just as good in 2017.

Luckily for BYU football, Guice might not get his typical workload. The key word there of course being “might.”

The Times-Picayune reported that LSU head coach Ed Orgeron isn’t entirely sure if Guice will play this week after missing practice last week.

“We expect to ease him back into practice and we’re going to see how this week goes,” Orgeron said. “Do I think Derrius is going to play? Yes. Am I 100 percent sure right now? No.”

He’s currently recovering from having his wisdom teeth removed. So we’ll see if he gets his normal 25+ carry workload against the Cougars. Considering Guice is a Heisman-level talent, you’d assume he’ll get plenty of run on Saturday.

After all, he did practice yesterday. But if you’re BYU football, you take a 97 percent Guice over a 100 percent one.
