No. 2: LSU wins season openers

Since 2000, the LSU Tigers have lost just two season-opening games. One game was cancelled due to weather, but the Tigers won the following week – so they’re 15-2 in openers.

Not too shabby.

Granted, a lot of those opponents were lesser competition, but the Tigers still took on plenty of talented teams and came away victorious.

I know that past victories mean nothing – it isn’t like most of those players are still on the roster. But it does illustrate the culture surrounding the Tigers. They start hot.

And while most of those wins came with Les Miles and Nick Saban at the helm, Ed Orgeron is no slouch in his own right. The Tigers went 6-2 with him last season, only losing to No. 1 Alabama by 10 and No. 21 Florida by six. LSU defeated three ranked teams with Orgeron.
