Offensive Coordinator Ty Detmer

I’ve said it before but, at this point, Detmer’s offense has only been successful with Jamaal Williams and Taysom Hill.

Will it get better? Surely, you’d like to think so. It can’t really get much worse at this point.

Detmer needs to get his guys on campus, but putting an offense on the field that’s this anemic can’t be good for recruiting.

Still, I think I’m against Detmer getting canned (at least right now). I’d like to see his players get to campus before I judge his vision.

That being said, I’m hoping he adds some spice to his plan. If you watch the NFL, you’ll see a number of “pro-style” offenses. What the Patriots do is drastically different than what the Chiefs do. The Cardinals can’t run the ball, while the Cowboys can run on anyway.

The point is this: A “pro-style” offense is defined by the talent on the roster. Great coaches adapt their plans to fit the talent on the roster.

In college, that’s a bit different, because you recruit players who will fit your scheme. So until Detmer has the time to get those players in his system, it’s tough to judge.

That being said, I more than understand those who are upset. At this point it seems like he was better suited for a QB coach role.
