It Woke Everyone Up

The 2017 season played out like an NFL Follies Film. Miscues, broken plays, injuries… the whole gang was there.

And while it was brutal to soldier through, it did something extremely important.

It woke everyone up. From administrators to fans.

BYU football was accustomed to eight wins. That was the norm. Eight wins and a bowl game. The 2017 season went up in flames so magnificently that it snapped everyone awake.

Turns out you can’t coast in Division-I football. Turns out you can’t hire a coach, make certain decisions for him and come out on the other side with 10 wins. You can’t rest on a rich history and legacy.

Sure, it was painful. But if a down 2017 season can lead to a revival, I’ll take it. Hopefully this lights a fire under everyone and things get better quick.
