The Commitments

Right now, the Cougars have seven players committed for 2019 after Khymani Martin announced he’ll no longer attend BYU:

Two of them are 4-Star recruits, and the other five are 3-Star recruits according to 247 Sports. Those two 4-Star commitments are already two more than the Cougars had all of last year.

Those seven commits are:

Jacob Conover

The 4-Star quarterback from Chandler (AZ) High School is the newest commitment for the Cougars. He’s a unanimous Top 15 passer nationwide, and held offers from Alabama, Arizona State, South Carolina, Mississippi, and more.

Chuck Alatini

The defensive end out of Orem (UT) High School is BYU’s other 4-Star commit. He committed more than two years ago, and has held firm. Because of that, he holds no other offers, although plenty of schools would come calling if he reopened his recruiting.

Tausili Fiatoa

Projected as an outside linebacker, the 3-star commit from Kahuku (HI) High School also committed more than two years ago. He’s received a few other offers, including Oregon State, Fresno State, and Utah State.

Chase Roberts

A  3-Star receiver out of American Fork (UT) High School, Roberts committed last year. Just like Alatini, he’s been vocally steadfast in his commitment, effectively closing down other offers.

Blake Freeland

Freeland is a do-it-all athlete out of Herriman (UT) High School. The 3-Star commit played quarterback, tight end, and defensive end, and will likely find a place along the line on either side of the ball. He’s another long-time commitment that shut down recruiting from other teams.

Larenz Redd

The California running back out of Sierra High School committed to BYU in December. As a 3-Star recruit he’s drawn interest from other schools, including an offer from San Jose State.

Brooks Maile

The 3-Star defensive end out of Pine View (UT) High School committed to BYU back in June of last year, and he’s held firm as a Cougar, although Utah State has also offered him a scholarship.
