The Basketball Tournament has released the bracket for this summer’s competition, and Team Fredette is a No. 2 seed. Plus, they have Jimmer this year.

The bracket is out for The Basketball Tournament this summer, and Team Fredette got a No. 2 seed in the Midwest bracket.

This is quite the jump from last year, when Team Fredette was a No. 10 seed and took on Team Utah in the first round. Team Utah won 100-97 on a last-second three-pointer.

There’s one big difference, though, between last year and this year.

Jimmer Fredette is playing.

Last year, Jimmer served as one of the coaches, but didn’t play. This year he’ll be on the court, looking to make enough of an impression to get another shot at the NBA.

As the No. 2 seed, Team Fredette doesn’t know their first-round opponent quite yet. They’ll play the winner of West Coast Ronin and Peoria Allstars.

Fans will be able to watch Team Fredette on national television in their first game. They’ll play on ESPN at 10:00 AM MDT on Saturday, July 21st.

Jimmer isn’t the only player on Team Fredette that BYU fans will recognize. He’s joined by Charles Abouo, another former Cougar. In all, the current roster looks like this:

More from Lawless Republic

  • Jimmer Fredette (G) – BYU
  • Charles Abouo (F) – BYU
  • Derek Cooke Jr. (F) – Wyoming
  • Jordon Crawford (G) – Bowling Green
  • EJ Gallup (G) – Coastal Carolina
  • Darington Hobson (F) – New Mexico
  • Dejan Kravic (C) – Texas Tech
  • Jeff Ledbetter (G) – Idaho
  • Xavier Silas (G) – Northern Illinois
  • Jamaal Tatum (G) – Southern Illinois
  • Devin Williams (F) – West Virginia

The teams are competing for a $2 million prize for the tournament winner. If Team Fredette wants to take home the title and the payout, they’ll have to get past Overseas Elite, who has won the last three TBT championships.

Fortunately, Team Fredette wouldn’t have to take on Overseas Elite until the championship game.

And with Jimmer playing, anything is possible.
