BYU Football: The 2018 home slate stinks, but future home schedules will rock
By Shaun Gordon
2021
Just like 2020, there’s still one more home game to schedule for 2021, and it’ll probably be an FCS team, too.
Also like the previous year, the top-tier teams are absent, but its a deep home slate.
Take a look:
- Utah
- Arizona State
- South Florida
- Boise State
- Virginia
Plus, BYU will take on Arizona in Las Vegas to kick off the season.
The Cougars get to host the Holy War again, this time as the second game of the season. The following week they’ll bring in another PAC-12 foe in Arizona State. If Herm Edwards is still the head coach, the hoopla around the game could be just as fun as the game itself.
Then South Florida comes to LaVell Edwards Stadium. The Bulls are a team on the rise, having won 8+ games in each of their last three years, and 10+ in their last two. They don’t show any signs of a decline, either.
Boise State will be back in Provo, which is always a good game.
Then Virginia.
Not only are they a Power Five program, but it’ll mark the return of Bronco Mendenhall. Assuming Mendenhall is still with the Cavaliers in three years, it’ll be the first time he’ll step foot on the LaVell Edwards Stadium field since leaving BYU.
Plus, he’s always had a love-hate relationship with fans, so expect the stands to be packed with the fans who love him, as well as the fans who love to hate him.
