The BYU Cougars kick off the 2025 season in 26 days against Portland State. As we continue counting down the days until kickoff, today we will profile the player who wears No. 26 - redshirt senior long snapper Garrison Grimes - by providing three interesting, fun facts:

Fun fact No. 1 - Yes, Jeff Grimes is his father

The last name Grimes is familiar among BYU football fans because of the solid legacy left by his father, Jeff, who was the Cougars offensive coordinator. The elder Grimes was originally hired by BYU in 2004 as an offensive line coach, left for another job two years later, then returned to Provo in 2018 as BYU's offensive coordinator.

Coach Grimes spent four years leading a solid BYU offense and was a finalist in 2020 for the Broyles Award, an honor given to the nation's best assistant coach. The elder Grimes broke some hearts in Provo when he bolted for Baylor following the 2021 season.

Fun fact No. 2 - Garrison transferred to BYU from Baylor

The rivalry about transfers between BYU and Baylor is well documented. Garrison followed his father to Baylor in 2021 and redshirted as a freshman. He then went on to start three straight seasons as Baylor's long snapper from 2022 through 2024. The highlight of his time at Baylor was recovering two special teams fumbles against Texas.

Fun fact No. 3 - It just feels right to end his college career at BYU

During his time at BYU, Jeff Grimes was a well-respected, well-liked offensive coordinator. He made the program better during his tenure with the team. Garrison played his high school ball at American Fork High School where we was a two-time All-State tight end. Given Garrison's family ties to the BYU program and having prepped not far from Provo, it just feels right to have him close out his college career wearing the royal blue.
