It appears the coveted QB may have narrowed his list of schools down to BYU and Oregon.

According to multiple reports, coveted 2026 5-star quarterback Ryder Lyons has cancelled his official visit to USC. This visit was originally scheduled for June 6th.

This is a massive development in the recruiting process as Lyons had narrowed down his final three choices to BYU, Oregon, and USC. The recruiting website 247 Sports had gone as far as giving a crystal ball prediction that Lyons, who preps in Folsom, California, would sign with the Trojans. While USC isn't necessarily out of the running, this development obviously isn't good news in their quest to sign the high school standout.

This should leave BYU fans giddy with excitement.

The winds of Lyons's recruitment seem to be blowing toward Provo.

Last week Jay Drew of the Deseret News dropped this tantalizing nugget from recruiting expert Brandon Huffman regarding which way Lyons may be leaning, "Talking to some of the guys who are committed to BYU or who are leaning toward BYU, they all feel decently confident that Ryder is going to end up at BYU. I have been saying all along that BYU needs to get way more credit for being a factor in this race than the general public is giving them.”

Decently confident, people!

This breaking development with USC will only increase hope among BYU fans that the program could sign one of the most significant high school recruits in program history. Lyons's .9901 composite rating at 247 Sports would be the third highest in BYU history, trailing quarterback Ben Olsen (.9980) and offensive lineman Ofa Mohetau (.9934).

Signing one of the country's best quarterbacks could also open the floodgates to the rest of BYU's recruiting efforts. Landing a premier quarterback is a magnet to attract a host of other offensive players who want to benefit from both their quarterback's skill and national profile.

Ryder Lyons visits BYU on June 19th. His visit to Oregon is scheduled for June 13th, so the Cougars will get the last word with their coveted target.

Let's hope the good news continues.
