The BYU Cougars kick off the 2025 season in 59 days against Portland State. As we continue counting down the days until kickoff, today we will profile the player who wears No. 59 - redshirt senior defensive end Logan Lutui - by providing three interesting, fun facts:
Fun fact No. 1 - He could be BYU's breakout defensive star
Logan Lutui could be poised to be BYU's defensive breakout star this year. As a likely starter at defensive end, he's entering his sixth college football season given a redshirt year at Weber State and a COVID season. Logan has a lot of experience with 40 college games and 10 career starts already under his belt.
Last year Lutui was a co-captain and started four of 13 games in Jay Hill's defense. He registered 13 tackles last year, including 3.5 tackles for loss and one sack. The reason he could be a breakout star for the Cougars this year is because BYU has beefed up (pun intended) the interior defensive line with transfers Keanu Tanuvasa and Justin Kirkland. Throw in some outstanding linebackers that offensive lines will have to account for, and Logan Lotui could have plenty of freedom to get after the quarterback.

Fun fact No. 2 - He's a returned missionary
According to his profile at BYU's team page, Lutui served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to New Zealand from 2017 through 2019. His profile also notes that he and his wife, Selei, have a son named Ezekiel.
Fun fact No. 3 - He was a ward organist?
Lutui's player profile also highlights the fact that he plays the piano and the organ. It further specifies that he "began playing the organ for his local congregation at age 15." Not only does Logan Lutui know how to accompany quarterbacks to the ground, he also apparently knows how to accompany a congregation in singing the hymns.
