The BYU Cougars will kick off the 2025 season in 64 days against Portland State. As we continue counting down the days until kickoff, today we will profile the player who wears No. 64 - redshirt junior guard Kyle Sfarcioc - by providing three interesting, fun facts:
Fun fact No. 1 - He's a transfer from Southern Utah
Coming out of high school in Arizona back in 2021, Sfarcioc wasn't considered a top national prospect. He was a two-star talent with a 79 overall grade from 247 Sports and he signed with Southern Utah University. Per the Deseret News, he played 1,409 snaps at SUU and and never allowed a sack. As a transfer to BYU this year he was given an 86 grade from 247 Sports, reflecting just how much he developed as a Thunderbird.

Fun fact No. 2 - He's likely going to start this year
While returning starter Weylin Lapuaho has already locked down one of the starting guard spots for the upcoming season, the second one is up for grabs. Based on where things stand as of now, it looks like Sfarcioc has pretty much locked down the second starting spot. Both Ourlads and KSL Sports project him to start opposite Lapuaho along the interior offensive line. While this will be his first season of Power Four football, it looks like Sfarcioc is ready to make the leap.
Fun fact No. 3 - He has already put on 15 pounds at BYU
When Sfarcioc announced his transfer from SUU to BYU in December 2024, he was listed at 295 pounds. BYU's website now lists him at 310, which isn't surprising given BYU's top-shelf strength and nutrition programs. The extra bulk will be needed as Kyle prepares to do battle in the trenches against Big 12 opponents, many of whom were top high school prospects or are harboring NFL ambitions. Sfarcioc proved at SUU that he has the technique, now he's adding the size to start at the Power Four level.
