The BYU Cougars will kick off the 2026 season in 68 days against Utah Tech. As we count down the days until kickoff, today we will profile the player who wears No. 68 - redshirt freshman offensive lineman Andrew Williams.
Andrew Williams' background
BYU doesn't land many football players from Missouri, but that's precisely what they did when they signed Andrew Williams in the class of 2025. Hailing from Kirksville, Williams was a highly sought after offensive tackle coming out of high school. He was a solid three star prospect with an 87 grade from 247 Sports. He was the No. 12 prospect coming out of Missouri and the No. 72 tackle prospect in the country.
Not surprisingly, Williams had many offers to choose from coming out of high school, and most of them came from schools much closer to home than Provo, Utah. His Power Four offers included a host of Big 12 programs like Kansas, Kansas State, and Iowa State. He also had Ivy League offers from Harvard, Yale, Columbia, and Princeton, which must have been intriguing for a player who puts "student" in the term student-athlete.
In the end, he chose BYU. And after one season in the program, it's easy to understand why he decided to come to Provo, both for his football present and his future.

Williams' past and present with BYU
The 6-foot-8, 300-pounder was a freshman last year and redshirted while seeing action in two games. He played sparingly against Portland State and UCF, but any freshman that sees the field is being told by the coaching staff that they see a bright future for them.
As a versatile player who can play both tackle and guard, Williams could be competing this year for time at guard. He could also develop into a future starter at tackle given his size and positional experience.
While he only played a small role as a freshman last year, Williams could be competing for snaps as a redshirt freshman in 2026 and a spot on the two-deep roster. BYU doesn't recruit in Missouri very often, but they went after Andrew Williams for a reason. It will be exciting to see how the summer plays out in the development and role of this very talented young player.
