The BYU Cougars will kick off the 2026 season in 74 days against Utah Tech. As we count down the days until kickoff, today we will profile the player who wears No. 74 - redshirt senior guard Trevin Ostler.
Trevin Ostler's background
Trevin Ostler played his high school ball at Bountiful, so he's a Utah product. He was a member of the class of 2022 and was a solid three star prospect with an 84 rating from 247 Sports. Coming out of high school he was listed as an athlete because at 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds he played a lot of tight end but could play elsewhere.
He flew under the radar as a recruit for the most part with his only other listed offer coming from UNLV. There was also some interest from Oregon State, but no offer was recorded. Ostler's commitment to BYU in July 2021 likely put a stop to other recruiting efforts and offers that may have come had he let the process play out a bit longer. But the strategy seems to have worked for him as he enters his final season of college football.

Ostler's past and present with BYU
While Trevin Ostler stepped foot on BYU's campus back in 2022 as a relatively skinny 6-foot-5, 240-pound "athlete", his body has undergone a dramatic change since then.
Today he's listed at 320 pounds and will be competing for a starting guard spot along the Cougars interior offensive line.
At Ostler's profile on BYU's team website he wasn't credited with appearing in any games from 2022 through 2024. But last year he found his way onto the field and appeared in all 14 of BYU's games, helping the team cap off an outstanding 12-2 campaign. He was deployed as an extra run blocker in some packages, and he also leveraged his high school experience by playing some tight end last year, also in a blocking capacity.
In 2026 he could emerge as a starting guard along BYU's stacked offensive line. During Spring ball he took a lot of reps with the first team, so his final season of college football could also be his first season starting in Provo. He could end up being the mauling run blocker opening up holes for LJ Martin this year.
Trevin Ostler's game has grown along with his size as he enters his fifth season at BYU. Here's to hoping he goes out with a productive and successful 2026 campaign.
