The BYU Cougars will kick off the 2025 season in 74 days against Portland State. As we continue counting down the days until kickoff, today we will profile the player who wears No. 74 - redshirt junior tackle Trevin Ostler.
Trevin Ostler's background
Coming out of Bountiful High School in the class of 2022, Ostler was a three-star recruit from 247 Sports (84 overall) and the No. 31 prospect from the state of Utah. At 6-foot-5 he had the requisite height to play tackle on the college level, but at just 240 pounds he was going to need a year or two to beef up. And during his time in Provo he has done just that, tipping the scales today at 315 pounds.
Ostler's list of offers coming out of high school was light, with his only other scholarship offer coming from UNLV. Once BYU extended an offer in the summer of 2021 - the season before his senior year - he quickly accepted and shut down the recruiting process, keeping other schools at bay.

Ostler's potential impact in 2025
Entering his redshirt junior season - his fourth year at BYU - it feels like this is the year Trevin Ostler will need to break out. Despite his experience with the program he has yet to appear in a game in a Cougars uniform. Ostler has done a remarkable job transforming his body to meet the rigors of Big 12 play in the trenches and he should know the offense well, so the question now is if he has the technique.
Neither Ourlads or KSL Sports currently project Trevin Ostler on the offensive depth chart. While the Cougars lost both of their starting tackles last year in Caleb Etienne and Brayden Keim, they return and experienced core of Isaiah Jatta, Austin Leausa, and Michigan transfer Andrew Gentry. Throw in two highly-touted freshmen in Ethan Thomason (89 rating) and Andrew Williams (87 rating), plus a host of other tackles, and it's going to be tough for Ostler to crack the depth chart again this year.
Then again, BYU is looking to win now. There is always the possibility that offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick and offensive line coach TJ Woods will value experience over potential, and Trevin Ostler could find the field at some point in 2025 for the first time in his BYU career.
