The BYU Cougars will kick off the 2025 season in 82 days against Portland State. As we continue counting down the days until kickoff, today we will profile the player who wears No. 82 - redshirt freshman Noah Moeaki.
Noah Moeaki's background
Moeaki is a local kid who played his high school football at American Fork and graduated with the class of 2022. He committed to BYU way back in 2019, very early in his high school days, which likely tempered the amount of offers he received. 247 Sports gave him a solid three-star rating and 87 grade, making him the No. 9 overall recruit in the state of Utah that year.
The 6-foot-3, 245-pound specimen played both linebacker and tight end in high school and there was some question as to which position he would play at BYU, but tight end won out. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brazil from 2022 to 2024, then enrolled last year and redshirted his first season in Provo. He did not appear in any games last year for the Cougars.

Moeaki's potential impact in 2025
Noah Moeaki is one of only a handful of freshmen on the offensive side of the ball who could see meaningful action in 2025.
While Utah transfer Carsen Ryan will be the Cougars every-down tight end, the TE2 and TE3 spots are up for grabs. After BYU finished up spring camp this year a host of websites that cover the Cougars projected the team's offensive depth chart, and the general consensus is the TE2 spot will likely go to Moeaki or redshirt senior Ethan Erickson. While Erickson has the experience, Moeaki has the pedigree and potential.
Barring any surprises over the next couple of months, Noah Moeaki is in good position to make the two-deep roster and see some meaningful playing time in 2025.
