AJ Dybantsa's superman performance just wasn't enough to save BYU from the upset

Another year, another early exit for the BYU Cougars, but it hurts worse with a talent like AJ Dybantsa on the squad.

Star freshman AJ Dybantsa did what he does best for BYU, he put ont he cape and gave the Cougars a Superman performance, but it just wasn't enough in the NCAA Tournament. BYU was facing a Texas team that had to win its First Four game in order to even face the Cougars, and apparently, the Longhorns were more ready as they upset BYU 79-71 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Cougars were given a historic performance by Dybantsa as he put together a full 40-minute performance with 35 points and 10 rebounds. It just wasn't enough, though, as only one other Cougar scored in double digits, and BYU was unable yet again to make it past the first round of the tournament.

It never felt like BYU had a hold of this game as the Longhorns were able to work through the Cougar defense easily. Even though Dybantsa made a push in the end for BYU, the Cougars were never able to full close the game and it came down to Texas making its free throws, which they did.

All eyes will be on AJ Dybantsa's future plans with BYU season offically over

Before the college basketball season even started, AJ Dybantsa was projected to be a top-five pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. As the season progressed, Dybantsa was then projected to go No. 2 overall, and after some issues with Kansas star Darryn Peterson, he could possibly go No. 1 overall.

However, Dybantsa teased a return to Provo in an interview a couple of weeks ago, where he said he hadn't made a decision yet on what the future holds. Dybantsa even said that it was something he needed to talk about with his mom, as she wants him to get his college degree before going to the NBA to have a future after basketball.

BYU fans certainly wouldn't object to a few more seasons with Dybantsa on the court, but it feels unrealistic that he won't take his talents to the next level over the summer. All eyes will be on the star freshman over the coming weeks to see when he will make his decision for the future.
