BYU Football has completed two weeks of football, and the offense has been led by true freshman quarterback Bear Bachmeier. Bear has led the Cougars to a 2-0 start and has three passing touchdowns alongside three rushing touchdowns. He threw for 175 yards against Stanford.
BYU has a good future with Bear Bachmeier. He has great arm strength, good decision-making, and a high football IQ. So far, Bear looks like the right choice for the starting quarterback job. Bear has yet to throw an interception, and he has been good at ball security.
BYU has a history of great quarterbacks. Players like Jim McMahon, Steve Young, Taysom Hill, and Ty Detmer were all BYU quarterbacks. Bear could be the next great BYU quarterback, and "Quarterback University" has all of the tools possible to make Bachmeier special, but there are no guarantees he reaches legendary status.

He has the running ability to stretch plays and give the defense fits. A powerful and unafraid runner with the ball in his hands, Bear has flashed tremendous talent with his feet. But despite being a mobile quarterback, his arm has been just as -- if not more -- deadly as a weapon. Hitting tight windows and shredding secondaries, Bachmeier has made it clear that he's the right player to be starting quarterback in Provo, despite some rough edges.
Of course, it hasn't been perfect. This is to be expected from a freshman quarterback. Bear is inexperienced and still has some things to learn. Even with that, Bear has a solid path ahead of him, with strong upside. Bear has a strong arm and is a skilled runner, making him a dangerous dual-threat quarterback.
Overall, Bear is a good quarterback. Just give him another couple of weeks to figure things out, and he will be a great quarterback. BYU is going to figure this out, and Bear has an excellent future. Football is a team game, and his teammates will need to step up and be patient with him. BYU is going places this season, and Bear will be key.
