There's no topic hotter in the landscape of college sports right now than the Brendan Sorsby issue at Texas Tech. BYU and the rest of the Big 12 have been thrown into a firestorm of media attention, chaos, and, most of all, calls for the league to join forces with the NCAA to right what has been an incredibly obvious wrong.

If Sorsby is allowed to play this season, there's a real possibility that the members of the Big 12 will cancel their meetings with the Red Raiders entirely -- programs outside the conference have already begun to do just that.

This is why the Big 12's athletic directors, presidents, and commissioners have been reported to meet in a conference-wide call over the issue. Brendan Sorsby's injunction will allow him to play college football this season, despite extreme levels of gambling -- the likes of which have been an automatic cause for the revocation of a player's eligibility countless times in the past.

BYU athletic director Brian Santiago was a part of these calls, and shared his part in the story.

"There's a lot swirling right now on this topic," Santiago began. "What I can tell you is that the commissioner of our conference, the board of our conference -- which is the presidents, the executive committee -- they have a great handle. Obviously, there's heightened emotions with this topic. There was a very healthy conversation we had yesterday; there was a lot of input. Out of respect for the conference, the commissioner has just asked us to take our feedback and take it to the board and let the board and commissioner handle it."

"We have total confidence. Brett Yormark is a passionate individual about protecting the integrity of the sport, and our board of presidents are some of the best in all the universities in the country."

"We have 100% alignment and confidence that [President Reese] will represent us and the Big 12 in a perfect way."

Though he didn't go into specifics on his own views and opinions, reports have been perfectly clear on the following: the Big 12 is unanimously against Brendan Sorsby participating in college athletics this season. Should Texas Tech continue to defend their quarterback and ignore the ruling by the NCAA, there could be cataclysmic repercussions for their athletic department.
