BYU freshman phenom AJ Dybantsa recently launched his own YouTube channel and released his first video. As expected from a player with Dybantsa’s profile and resources, the first piece of content he dropped is really well done.
Overall, the production quality is excellent. The camera work is professional and the background music adds to the clip. The 7-minute 38-second video is a smart length of time to make it easy to consume while still being compelling and informative.
In his first video AJ provides some Interesting behind the scenes at Nike headquarters and his experience at the McDonald’s All-American game, including dunking over WBNA star Angel Reese.
Something AJ has done since signing with BYU is to regularly “rep the Y” in his social media posts, clothing, and in interviews. In his debut YouTube video, he did a Q&A at Nike’s headquarters and was asked what his expectations were in “bringing BYU into the national spotlight.”
AJ’s answer was spot on and reflects his media savvy:
“They’re in the national spotlight already,” Dybantsa said about BYU. “We were in the Sweet 16 this year so, I mean, I don’t gotta do too much… Everybody wants the top players to bring them to the national championship and obviously Cooper (Flagg)’s going that direction, but I mean, we’re just trying to make it as far as we can.”

Something else I appreciated was one of AJ’s peers appeared to use some mild profanity and the swear word was bleeped out, which is increasingly rare on YouTube these days.
For those of you who are as excited as I am about AJ’s upcoming season at BYU, it’s worth your while to follow his new YouTube channel.
