The next game should be at Provo Beach Resort.

The news cycle doesn't end at the transfer portal for BYU basketball, as it seems they're also busy scheduling future games in between hosting recruits and building next season's roster (I'm still waiting on that 7-foot center, fellas). The newest news break from Jon Rothstein is on a future meeting with the San Diego State Aztecs, which is being finalized to take place on December 19th at Acrisure Arena in Palm Springs, California.

Just shy of a two hour drive north from SDSU campus, perhaps the following game between these two can be held at Provo Beach resort, just a short trip north from BYU's campus, and equally tropical.

BYU and SDSU have faced off regularly in the non-conference schedule since the Cougars left the Mountain West Conference for the West Coast Conference back in 2011. Now as members of the Big 12 Conference while the Aztecs pine for a chance to join the rest of the Mountain West in the new-look Pac-12 Conference.

The Cougars and Aztecs were bitter rivals back in the MWC days, with their competition forever peaking during the final seasons of Jimmer Fredette and Kawhi Leonard at their respective programs. Those top-10 Mountain West matchups were the stuff of legend, with two of college basketball's greats doing battle as conference foes. Led by some of Fredette's greatest performances, BYU won both regular season meetings against SDSU, but failed to make it three in a row without center Brandon Davies, losing in the Mountain West Conference championship game.

San Diego State's Wikipedia page still lists BYU as one of the Aztecs' main rivals, alongside the USD Torreros of the WCC and the UNLV Rebels. Clearly, these two teams' feud spanned decades, and there's no love lost between these two former Mountain West peers.

For now, BYU basketball continues its roster-building search in the transfer portal.
