BYU secures commitment from 2025 7-foot rim protector Xavion Staton
The Cougars aren't finished bolstering their basketball program, as they landed the commitment of the best rim protector in the 2025 recruiting class in 7-footer Xavion Staton.
Xavion is a 4-star center and the 23rd-rated player in the 2025 recruiting class, per 247 Sports.
Staton, a Las Vegas native and highly coveted prospect, chose to join Kevin Young and the BYU Cougars over competing offers from programs like Kansas, Kansas State, Creighton, Arizona, Texas, and so many others.
Less than a week removed from Chamberlain Burgess' commitment, the Cougars got some more great news as another NBA-level talent is set to play at BYU in the 2025-26 season.
Staton is a major get for a program that seems to constantly outdo itself. The 2nd-rated center in his class and top player from Nevada, Staton is joining a program in BYU that promises to help players become NBA-ready.
A long, athletic, and dynamic big like Staton adds big-time size to the Cougars' 2025 roster and could form a defensive nightmare with Keba Keita for any teams who hope to get an easy bucket in the paint. Challenging Staton at the rim likely feels like trying to flip a layup over a skyscraper--a skyscraper that is obsessed with evaporating your shot attempt. Good luck with that.
With rumblings of other notable players in the 2025 class favoring a year in Provo, we can only presume that news of Xavion's commitment will only help Kevin Young and his staff build credibility in pitching their program to more high-profile recruits.
Staton's addition is yet another reason to be highly optimistic about the future of BYU basketball. I hope this ride never slows down.
