BYU basketball will meet a familiar fifth-year face when they play Utah State

When BYU basketball squares off against in-state rival Utah State this fall, they'll meet familiar face Dallin Hall, who just announced a commitment to join the Aggies on the court after a California injunction granted him and the rest of his classmates a fifth season of eligibility.

He'll pair up with Mason Falslev to form one of the most dangerous backcourts in the newly-reassembled Pac-12 Conference, and will square off against the Cougars on December 9th in the Marriott Center. A homecoming for a former fan-favorite in Provo.

It was a strange career for Dallin Hall at BYU -- one that ended too quickly. After two excellent years as the starting point guard, Hall returned for a Junior season under new head coach Kevin Young, but found himself tied down as a captain of the second unit, playing backup under freshman phenom and eventual number-eight draft pick, Egor Demin.

Hall was a steadying presence with the ball in his hands, and felt a magnetic pull to the basketball in big moments -- and his arms clearly felt a similar pull to the free weights, if you'll take a quick gander at his biceps. Who can forget his dagger three-pointer over Hunter Dickinson and seventh-ranked Kansas in the Allen Fieldhouse? Or his out-of-nowhere two-handed alley-oop jam upon angels' wings in the Hilton Coliseum that pushed BYU's lead to 22 points over top-10 Iowa State?

But when BYU drew near to signing five-star point guard Robert Wright III in the summer before Hall's senior year, the Plains City, Utah, native took to the transfer portal, where he knew he could find a starting role with a power conference program. He did just that, landing with a very good Virginia team for his senior season.

Now granted another season of eligibility, Hall is heading closer to home to bolster an ever-dangerous Utah State program.
