I’m a lifelong BYU fan, a BYU graduate, and an avid collector of sports cards. In recent years, I've begun specializing in rare, autographed cards of BYU players in their BYU uniforms. Instead of just keeping these cardboard treasures to myself, in this video series entitled "BYU Cards Tell Stories", I'm opening up my collection and sharing it with you.
In this episode, I'm sharing my extensive collection of autographed Bear Bachmeier autographed rookie cards.
My sports card investing strategy
Why did I purchase NINE Bear Bachmeier autographed cards, you might ask?
It all comes down to my strategy when it comes to sports card collecting and investing.
Some guys spend their money on golf. Others pour cash into restoring cars. And others spend their discretionary income on video games or Jordan brand shoes or travel. I allocate a very small part of my available funds on sports cards, something I've done for decades going back to my childhood in the 1980s.
I mostly buy reasonably priced autographed cards of BYU players, and usually just one card per player for my personal collection.
But sometimes I'll speculate and load up on a certain player's high school cards before they "pop" in college and suddenly have a national audience of card collectors.
That's why I currently have nine autographed Bear Bachmeier cards.

As soon as it looked like he could become the first freshman to start Week 1 in the history of BYU football, I bought every card for around $10, shipping included, that I could get my hands on. On average I spent $8 per card for these nine beauties. I will probably keep 2-3 for my personal collection then flip the rest for a modest profit
With BYU's apparently soft schedule to begin the season, I could see the Bear Bachmeier hype train at full speed after about six games. That's when I'll sell.
But for now, I'll just enjoy having these autographed Bear Bachmeier cards in my personal collection.
All nine of them.
