The national media is picking up on what we as BYU fans already know about Cosmo the Cougar:
He's the GOAT among college mascots.
And the good people at CBS Sports agree. In the most recent Dribble Handoff article debating the best college basketball mascots, Matt Norlander, CBS Sports senior writer, made Cosmo king. Here's what Norlander wrote:
"We're talking mascots and not monikers, right? Because those are two different things. 'Cougars' is not one of the best monikers in college sports, but BYU's Cougar mascot is the best of the bunch. I don't even think it's arguable. His name is Cosmo and he's a better athlete than probably 90% of the population in men's college hoops."
That's right. Cosmo is "the best of the bunch."
It's also revealing to see Norlander refer to Cosmo's insane athleticism. BYU fans know exactly what Norlander is talking about. If you're not totally familiar with Cosmo's game, check out his legendary performance scaling a set of tables using only pushups.
Cosmo really burst on to the national scene back in 2017 when he performed a dance routine with the Cougarettes dance team. BYU's mascot not only has strength, he's also got swag and rhythm.
This article could go on for pages if I attached individual videos of all of Cosmo's most memorable exploits. So rather than doing that, take a look at this video from Brigham Young University's website titled "Cosmo: World's Coolest Mascot", which is a case of absolute truth in advertising.
As BYU fans, we're pretty spoiled right now. Kalani Sitake's football team finished last season ranked No. 13 and has high hopes for the 2025 season. Kevin Young's basketball team reached the Sweet 16 last year and is considered to be a Top 10 team in most college basketball circles.
And BYU also has the nation's best mascot.
Cosmo is truly the GOAT.
