BYU football just secured the commitment of the 'highest-rated CB commit' in memory

What does Ryan Wooten's commitment to BYU football mean for the program?

BYU football just secured a 3-star cornerback out of New Jersey, and he might just be the best cornerback recruit the progam has ever seen in the modern era. I'd like to introduce you to Ryan Wooten. You'll hear his name a lot on Saturdays in Provo in the very near future.

A quick, twitchy, and ridiculously athletic playmaker at his position, he inhaled errant passes during his high school career like Kirby in Super Smash Bros. Melee.

Just one look at his offers list should be more than enough to get football coursing through your bloodstream. Programs like Nebraska, Washington, Florida, Texas A&M, and James Franklin's Virginia Tech team were all heavily involved in Wooten's recruiting process, and his addition to BYU football is a massive recruiting victory for Kalani Sitake and the newly promoted Kelly Poppinga. Even without Jay Hill calling plays from the booth -- he joined Kyle Whittingham at Michigan in the offseason -- the Cougars are drawing big-time defensive recruits, and retaining top talent from last season's team.

It all gets me craving football games in the shadow of the Wasatch Mountains.

Yes, baseball is the current sport to watch now that the Utah Mammoth are out of the playoffs, but with football season approaching rapidly (we're nearing the 100 days to kickoff mark), commitments like these get me spiked for fall air and the sound of the loudspeakers in LaVell Edwards Stadium.

Also worth noting, Ryan Wooten is the first BYU football commit from the Garden State since the turn of the century, which is just a ridiculous fact.

Wooten is the 52nd-rated cornerback and 17th-rated player in New Jersey, per 247 Sports. Don't be surprised to see him taking the field and getting first-team reps sooner rather than later. Hoping to make a run at the Big 12 Conference championship this season, Wooten adds depth to an already dangerous secondary.
