In  just its second year as a Power Four school and still a partial-share member of the Big 12 conference, BYU is one of just eight schools to claim more than one national championship in the 2024-25 academic year.

After winning both the men’s and women’s cross country titles, BYU joins Northwestern, North Carolina, Penn State, Texas, USC, Stanford, and Georgia as schools that claimed more than one title, per Reddit CFB:

The future is only getting brighter in Provo

Now among some of the bluebloods of college sports, the future is only getting brighter for BYU. The Cougars will become full-share members of the Big 12 in the 2025-26 academic year and receive an unprecedented influx of cash.

BYU’s inclusion among the Power Four, a revitalized donor base, and massively increased conference revenues have already had a major impact on recruiting and player development. Cross country remains a powerhouse that should be in contention for repeat championships next year.

BYU’s men’s track team finished 11th last year while the women finished 18th. The women’s track team will be adding high school phenom Jane Hedengren who continues to shatter national records in the mile.

The men’s basketball team reached the Sweet 16 last year and finished the season ranked No. 13. They will be adding No. 1 overall recruit AJ Dybantsa and the No. 3 recruiting class in the national along with some high-profile transfers to next year’s team.

Kalani Sitake’s football team finished tied for first place in the Big 12 last year and only missed out on playing in the conference championship game due to tie-break rules. They also finished No. 13 last year and between 2025 and 2026 have put together the best back-to-back recruiting classes in program history. The recent signing of 5-star quarterback Ryder Lyons could vault the Cougars even higher in the national rankings in years to come.

BYU men’s golf made the NCAA championship and finished tied for 13th. BYU men’s volleyball finished the season ranked No. 8, and the women’s volleyball team has a strong track record of success. Women’s soccer finished ranked No. 19 and is almost always a contender on the national stage.

The BYU Cougars were one of just eight schools to win multiple national championships this year.

It’s exciting to consider how many they could win next year.
