BYU players in the NFL Week 10: Will Fred Warner win Defensive Player of the Year?
By D.A. Sweat
Here’s the Week 10 summary of former BYU Cougars in the NFL. Power Rankings reflect this season's overall performance.
No. 1 - Fred Warner, LB, San Francisco 49ers
Stats: 9 tackles
The 49ers All-Pro linebacker helped San Francisco to a thrilling win to get to 5-4 on the season by racking up a team-high nine tackles. He has registered at least eight tackles in each of his last five games as he continues to build his Defensive Player of the Year resume. On the season he has 75 tackles, one sack, two interceptions (including a pick-six), six passes defended, and a league-leading four forced fumbles.
No. 2 - Kyle Van Noy, LB, Baltimore Ravens
Stats: 2 tackles, 1 QB hit
The Ravens won a one-point thriller under the bright lights of Thursday Night Football and KVN did his part. Through 10 games the veteran has 23 tackles and seven sacks
No. 3 - Puka Nacua, WR, Los Angeles Rams
Stats: 9 receptions, 98 yards; 1 tackle
Puka was back after being tossed for throwing a punch in his last contest, and he flirted with the 100-yard mark on Monday Night Football, coming up just two yards short. While the Rams suffered an uninspiring loss, Puka led his team in both receptions and yards.
No. 4 - Taysom Hill, TE/HB, New Orleans Saints
Stats: 4 rushes, 14 yards; 2 receptions, 36 yards
On the Saints first play from scrimmage, Taysom took the ball 88 yards to the house for a touchdown…but it was nullified by a holding penalty. He ended up recording 50 scrimmage yards on six touches to help the Saints squeak out a victory over the Atlanta Falcons.
No. 5 - Tyler Allgeier, RB, Atlanta Falcons
Stats: 11 rushes, 59 yards
The Falcons gave Tyler double-digit rushing attempts for the third time in 10 games this season and he responded by averaging over five yards per carry. On the season he has rushed for 429 yards, averaging 5.0 yards per carry.
No. 6 - Brady Christensen, OL, Carolina Panthers
Stats: Starter at left tackle
The suddenly resurgent Carolina Panthers won their second straight game to get to 3-7 on the season with Brady Christensen protecting Bryce Young’s blind side. I wrote an article earlier this week highlighting Christensen as the NFL’s most versatile, unknown offensive lineman. He had another strong game against the New York Giants in Week 10.
No. 7 - Ryan Rehkow, P, Cincinnati Bengals
Stats: 3 punts, 41.3 average, 2 inside 20
Rehkow pinned the Ravens at the 16 on one punt and on the eight yard line on another. His other punt was fair caught at the 20, so the rookie with the big leg focused on accuracy over distance in this game and did his job well.
No. 8 - Khyiris Tonga, DT, Arizona Cardinals
Stats: No stats, 8 defensive snaps
The Cardinals defense curb stomped the New York Jets offense, limiting Aaron Rodgers & Co. to six points. Unfortunately, Khyiris Tonga only saw eight defensive snaps after being much more involved in previous games. He has 15 tackles in eight games this year.
No. 9 - Jamaal Williams, RB, New Orleans Saints
Stats: Did not play due to groin injury
Jamaal missed his second consecutive game with a groin injury. He has 32 carries for 124 yards (3.9 YPC) on the season.
No. 10 - Chris Brooks, RB, Green Bay Packers
Stats: Bye week
The second-year pro has seen his role on the Packers offense grow as the season has progressed. He has 53 yards on 13 carries along with four receptions for 29 yards.
No. 11 - Zayne Anderson, S, Green Bay Packers
Stats: Bye week
The fourth-year special teams ace has a career-high six tackles on the season.
No. 12 - Sione Takitaki, LB, New England Patriots
Stats: 1 tackle; 28 defensive snaps, 9 special teams snaps
Just as Sione Takitaki nearly fully ramped up from injury, he gets bit once again. Sione started against the Bears and recorded a tackle before leaving the game with a hamstring issue. Here’s to hoping for a speedy recovery during this frustrating, injury-plagued season.
No. 13 - Kingsley Suamataia, OT, Kansas City Chiefs
Stats: 46 offensive snaps (68%), 4 special teams snaps
Kingsley has played limited offensive snaps after being benched after Week 2, but this week Wanya Morris went down with an injury and Suamatia was called upon at left tackle to protect Patrick Mahomes’ blind side. The good news is he got the opportunity, but the bad news is reports are that he continued to struggle when on the field. Morris returned later in the game, sending Kingsley back to the sidelines.
No. 14 - Michael Davis, CB, Washington Commanders
Stats: 1 tackle, 16 special teams snaps
Davis continues to contribute on special teams for the Commanders and registered a tackle on the game’s opening kickoff. He has five tackles on the season.
No. 15 - Blake Freeland, OT, Indianapolis Colts
Stats: 4 special teams snaps
Freeland saw action for the second time this season after being inactive most of the year.
Did Not Play:
Zach Wilson, QB, Denver Broncos (Inactive)
On Practice Squads:
Jaren Hall, QB, Seattle Seahawks
Dax Milne, WR, Carolina Panthers
Kedon Slovis, QB, Houston Texans
Max Tooley, LB, Minnesota Vikings
