Here’s the Week 13 summary of former BYU Cougars in the NFL. Power Rankings reflect this season's overall performance.
No. 1 - Fred Warner, LB, San Francisco 49ers
Stats: 4 tackles
In the leadup to last week’s games it was disclosed that Fred Warner has been playing with a broken bone in his ankle for multiple weeks now. His impact in recent weeks has been tempered, likely due to the injury, and he had four tackles in a snowy, Sunday Night Football loss to the Buffalo Bills.
No. 2 - Puka Nacua, WR, Los Angeles Rams
Stats: 5 receptions, 56 yards, 1 TD; 1 rush, 7 yards
The Puka Nacua dominance tour continued in Week 13 as he led his team in both receptions and receiving yards while finding the end zone in a Rams victory.
No. 3 - Taysom Hill, TE/HB, New Orleans Saints
Stats: 5 rushes, 10 yards; 5 receptions, 37 yards
This is horrible. In the fourth quarter Taysom was running the ball when a tackler went low and put his helmet right on Hill’s left knee, bending it backward. Taysom was carted off the field and was diagnosed with a season-ending ACL tear. Heal up, Taysom. The BYU community is 100% in your corner.
No. 4 - Kyle Van Noy, LB, Baltimore Ravens
Stats: Inactive (hamstring/neck)
Van Noy didn’t practice all week due to hamstring and neck issues that he developed a week ago, so hopefully KVN will be back next week to build on his outstanding season.
No. 5 - Ryan Rehkow, P, Cincinnati Bengals
Stats: 2 punts, 43.5 yard average, 2 inside the 20
Rehkow’s only two punts both pinned the Steelers inside their own 20 yard line. The first was fair caught at the 15. The second was kicked out of bounds at the 19. The rookie punter continues to have an outstanding first season in the NFL.
No. 6 - Tyler Allgeier, RB, Atlanta Falcons
Stats: 8 carries, 16 yards; 1 reception, 1 yard
Allgeier got his chances in a Falcons loss to the Chargers, but he didn’t make a significant impact with his nine touches producing just 17 yards. Bijan Robinson had 26 carries for 102 yards (3.9 YPC) and six receptions for six yards as Allgeier continues to be underutilized in Atlanta.
No. 7 - Brady Christensen, OL, Carolina Panthers
Stats: 7 special teams snaps
I live in North Carolina and am a passionate Carolina Panthers fan, which can be a tough existence as a sports fan. The way the Panthers are underutilizing Brady Christensen leaves me incredulous. This is the last year of Brady’s rookie contract and the front office must have no intentions of resigning him, hence keeping him off the field. I hope Christensen’s new team next year sees the solid, versatile player he is and rewards him accordingly.
No. 8 - Chris Brooks, RB, Green Bay Packers
Stats: 3 carries, 28 yards; 2 receptions, 1 yard
The second-year back continues to make week-by-week progress in his first year with the Green Bay Packers. On Thanksgiving Day he reeled off a nice 18-yard gain and had five total touches. On the season he has now rushed 20 times for 92 yards (4.6 YPC) with nine receptions for another 58 yards.
No. 9 - Khyiris Tonga, DT, Arizona Cardinals
Stats: Not active
Tonga wasn’t on the injury report but was for some reason held out of this game. He had been averaging around 20 defensive snaps per game in recent weeks, so not playing this week was a surprise. He has 13 tackles in 10 games this year.
No. 10 - Jamaal Williams, RB, New Orleans Saints
Stats: 1 reception, 7 yards; 4 offensive snaps
Jamaal missed the entire month of November with injuries and returned to limited action in Week 13.
No. 11 - Sione Takitaki, LB, New England Patriots
Stats: 1 tackle; 7 defensive snaps, 11 special teams snaps
Takitaki had a special teams tackle in punt coverage late in the game. Most BYU fans were hoping that with him now being fully healthy that Takitaki would be starting and making bigger contributions at this point in the season, but here we are.
No. 12 - Michael Davis, CB, Washington Commanders
Stats: 1 tackle; 8 defensive snaps, 14 special teams snaps
The veteran corner has been relegated to mostly special teams work in his first season with the Commanders, and he provided a tackle on kickoff coverage last week. He was also flagged for unnecessary roughness with the Commanders leading 28-0, which isn’t a great look. On the season he has eight tackles and one pass defended.
No. 13 - Zayne Anderson, S, Green Bay Packers
Stats: 2 tackles; 17 special teams snaps
On Thanksgiving Day Zayne Anderson had two more special teams tackles in addition to a nice block on the game’s opening kickoff to set up a good Packers return. While his impact is limited to special teams, Anderson is making a difference for Green Bay with eight tackles on the season.
No. 14 - Kingsley Suamataia, OT, Kansas City Chiefs
Stats: 2 offensive snaps, 6 special teams snaps
Even with the Chiefs left tackle Wanya Morris getting repeatedly beaten off the edge by the Raiders on Black Friday, Kingsley still wasn’t the answer. The Chiefs coaching staff replaced Morris by moving a guard to left tackle instead of inserting the BYU rookie. Kingsley’s rookie season continues on its slow pace.
No. 15 - Blake Freeland, OT, Indianapolis Colts
Stats: 3 special teams snaps
The second-year offensive lineman continues to see a few special teams snaps on a weekly basis.
Has Not Played:
Zach Wilson, QB, Denver Broncos (Inactive)
Jaren Hall, QB, Seattle Seahawks (Inactive) - Note: In a positive development, Jaren Hall was called up from the practice squad to the active roster this week.
On Practice Squads:
Dax Milne, WR, Carolina Panthers
Kedon Slovis, QB, Houston Texans
Max Tooley, LB, Minnesota Vikings
