Bear Bachmeier assumed the role of starting quarterback with remarkable maturity in his first season with the BYU football program. As the first true freshman QB in program history to start on week one, the odds were stacked against Bachmeier from the start. Taking it one step further, the teenager hadn't even been with the team for a full offseason, transferring from the shakeup over at Stanford after spring practice and managing to win the starting role in just a few months.

Now touted as the best sophomore quarterback in the country, Bear was all smiles at the Big 12 Football Media Days as he had the chance to preview the upcoming season.

With the expectations of a return to the Big 12 Championship game, a chance to breach the gates of the College Football Playoff, and the challenge of accomplishing all that with a depleted receiving room, Bachmeier radiated confidence in his response to the Cougars' potential pitfalls.

"Very confident in those guys," Bachmeier beamed. "They're going to be dangerous, and I've got a great relationship with all those guys. And it's kind of the same deal as it was last year with the quarterback room. Nobody really knew what was going to happen, but I know those guys are going to step up, and we're going to be lethal."

He doubled down on the faith he holds in his teammates, breaking down why he chose to stay at BYU this offseason by highlighting how much he loves representing the university, the fanbase, and his teammates every time he puts on royal blue.

"It's just the culture and playing for Kalani, playing for Cougar Nation. I look around at some of the guys who are here right now: LJ, Keanu, Glasker, Shmev [Evan Johnson], and Bruce -- and just see how much good they do for the community and how great of a person they are of high character."

"Why would you not want to play for these guys? Why would you not want to give it your all when you're in between the lines? So I love being at BYU, I love representing such a great university, and I love being around such great people."
